Discussion with Professor Mohammed Ayoob at the C·A·P

On Wednesday, 12 June 2013, the Center for Applied Policy Research has welcomed for a discussion meeting Professor Mohammed Ayoob, Distinguished Professor of International Studies and Coordinator of the Muslim Studies Program at Michigan State University. The event was jointly organized by the C·A·P’s Leading Change Across the Mediterranean Programme, by the Black Sea Young Reformers Project and by the Middle East and International Affairs Research Group.

A large part of the discussion focused on, and evolved from, various considerations relating to the recent political developments in Turkey, with particular reference to the current street protests. Moreover, the civil war in Syria as well as the transformation processes in North Africa were discussed. A particular emphasis of the debate was also on the geostrategic considerations of countries like Iran, Saudi Arabia and Qatar as well as on Turkey’s policy towards the Middle East.
