Dr. René Rieger is a political consultant, lecturer, and academic author specializing in international relations, security, and transformation processes in the MENA region as well as in Islamism in Europe. In addition, he is the chairman of the Middle East and International Affairs Research Group (MEIA Research). Since 2010, Dr. Rieger has been a recurrent university lecturer inter alia at Ludwig-Maximilians University of Munich (LMU) and a regular guest speaker at research and educational institutions in Germany and abroad as well as at various institutions of the German armed forces. In 2012, he was a guest researcher at the King Faisal Center for Research and Islamic Studies in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

From 2003-2009, he studied political science, contemporary history, international law, and Modern Standard Arabic at LMU and at Dartmouth College (USA). In 2009, he received a Master’s degree with distinction from LMU. In 2013, he was awarded a PhD in Middle East Politics from the University of Exeter (UK). His dissertation is entitled "The Foreign Policy of the Arab Gulf Monarchies from 1971 to 1990."
