Dr. Reinhard Rummel and Almut Metz, visiting scholars at the Centre for European Studies at Renmin University in Beijing, participated in the international Conference "Regional Cooperation: Experience in Europe and Practice in East Asia" near Beijing on October 8-11 2006. The conference with participants from China, Southeast Asia, and Europe was jointly organized by the Konrad-Adenauer Foundation and the China Institute for International Strategic Studies (CIISS).

Reinhardt Rummel elaborated on the EU's ongoing efforts to expand its capacities in conflict solution and conflict prevention. Almut Metz commented on the current state of the EU integration process.

Dr. Rummel and Ms. Metz are conducting research in Beijing within the collaborative research project "The Impact of EU Enlargement on European Integration and the Global Political Economy".
