Improving Responsiveness

A transatlantic network for U.S. and European policy makers

28.03.2007 · C·A·P

The program "Improving Responsiveness to International Change" facilitates exchange between decision makers from both sides of the Atlantic. It increases responsiveness to and awareness of foreign policy issues among the future policy elites by providing the participants an opportunity to learn about the transatlantic partners' perceptions and encouraging them to develop policy strategies for transatlantic responses.

The project addresses primarily young European and U.S. policy makers, as these are most likely to make a difference in transatlantic relations in the future.

Our roundtables, which are held in regular intervals on both sides of the Atlantic, provide an excellent framework for open discussion and analysis. They concentrate on issues which promise to influence the transatlantic agenda in years to come. The topics and papers of past roundtables can be found on this project website.

Recognizing the need for new networks for professional and personal exchange, we operate a network structure which makes use of the possibilities the internet offers for communication. The mailing list ResponsiveNews offers information about the latest developments and activities. In addition, our website serves as a forum where articles, papers etc. are made available.

Alongside the project, we serve two specific target groups:

  • The 'Transatlantic Issues Series' is a platform for the exchange of ideas among American and German experts on transatlantic politics. Workshops held in Munich on a regular basis address a mostly local audience.

  • The Transatlantic Editors' Forum offers direct access to many leading European and American foreign policy magazines via the CAP website. A mailing list allows the editors to share their views about current events and communicate regularly about new trends in editing or the content of their forthcoming issues.

The "Improving Responsiveness" program is conducted by the Center for Applied Policy Research (C·A·P), with the support of the German Marshall Fund of the United States. The German Marshall Fund is an American institution that stimulates the exchange of ideas and promotes cooperation between the United States and Europe in the spirit of the postwar Marshall Plan.
