CO2 Emissions

20.07.2005 · Research Group on the Global Future

Although the debate rages over the environmental consequences of using fossil fuels - with global warming as both the most pressing and most hotly disputed - there's no question that the amount of CO2 emissions worldwide continues to rise. Several trends contribute to the overall increase, including increasing emissions in the developing world and a slowing down of the decline in formerly communist countries, as their economies return to growth. Today, many countries are aware of this development and its consequences and governmental actions such as the Kyoto protocol and private actions such as improved efficiency try to counteract these trends.
