The Environmental Performance Measurement Project aims to shift environmental decision-making to firmer analytic foundations using environmental indicators and statistics. It is a collaboration of the Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN) at Columbia University, the World Economic Forum, and the Yale Center for Environmental Law & Policy. The project produces a periodically updated Environmental Sustainability Index (ESI). The ESI is a composite index tracking a diverse set of socioeconomic, environmental, and institutional indicators that characterize and influence environmental sustainability at the national scale.

European Environment Agency (EEA)
The EEA aims to support sustainable development and to help achieve significant and measurable improvement in Europe's environment through the provision of timely, targeted, relevant and reliable information to policy-making agents and the public.

The European Commission provides up-to-date information on the state of our environment, policy initiatives and legislative issues.

European Union Strategy for Sustainable Development

The OECD provides governments with the analytical basis to develop environmental policies that are effective and economically efficient, including through performance reviews, data collection, policy analysis, and projections. Links to specific sectors and to development are examined.

The German Council for Sustainable Development (RNE) was established by the German government in 2001. It advises the government on its policy for sustainable development and, by presenting proposals for targets and indicators, seeks to contribute towards the advancement of the strategy of sustainable development as well as to propose projects designed to realize the strategy.

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
UNEP has a mission to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
