Agenda 21
Statement of goals and programs to achieve sustainable development, Rio 1992.

The Rio Declaration
A brief statement of principles on sustainable development, Rio 1992.

The Biodiversity Convention
A binding international agreement aimed at strengthening nationally controlled preservation of biological variety and resources, Rio 1992.

The Statement of Forest Principles
A non-binding agreement on preservation of the Earth's remaining forests, Rio 1992.

The Framework Convention on Climate Change
A binding international agreement to limit emissions of gases, i.e. carbon dioxide and methane, associated with global warming. You may also click here to access the document, Rio 1992

United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The Convention tries to stop the long recognized desertification as a major economic, social and environmental problem of concern to many countries in all regions of the world, Paris 1994.

The Kyoto Protocol
In 1997 governments agreed to an addition to the Framework Convention on Climate Change called the Kyoto Protocol, which has more powerful (and legally binding) measures.
