"Concern for man himself and his fate must always form the chief interest of all technical endeavors ... in order that the creations of our mind shall be a blessing and not a curse to mankind."

(1) Aventis Triangle Forum
What do a star New York theater director, the former Deputy Prime Minister of Russia and the head of the World Conservation Union have in common? They're among forty experts and leaders from Europe, North America and Asia converging on Frankfurt am Main for the Aventis Triangle Forum. They will bring together experience from business, politics, science and the arts to work on visions of a sustainable global future.
Participants in the Forum will confront three sets of questions, first about governance in the future, second about the effects of technology, and finally about our responsibilities for tomorrow:
Common Currents of Power? The Future of Societies and Governance in the US, Europe and Asia
* What are the critical challenges facing governance in advanced industrialized societies?
* What are the key rules of the game in future societies, and which actors shape them?
* Who are the likely winners and losers, and why?
Shaping Future Societies: Globalization, Digitalization and Biotechnologization
* What parts of life will be changed most by the new technologies?
* What social problems or conflicts will advancing technologies provoke?
* What can a technologically transformed society offer as solutions?
* How does globalization affect these technological dimensions?
Responsibilities for the Future
* What concrete measures do we need to take now in order to reach the future that we desire?
* How can we organize social and generational contracts in a transformed society?
From these questions and presentations from visionary thinkers like Michio Kaku or hard-nosed pragmatists like Boris Nemtsov, the Forum will work on clear ideas for how we want to live tomorrow.
(2) FORUM LIVE
During the Forum, live reports from the discussions will be published on the web site of the Aventis Foundation. Instant feedback can be sent there, or on the site for the project, How We Want to Live Tomorrow.
Questions, comment, and suggestions based on the questions above or the other materials on the web site can also go directly to Forum participants via online forum or the project's e-mail address, mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org
