On March 4th the EUROPEAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES AND ARTS celebrated its 27th Festive Plenary Session. The festivities started on Friday 3rd March with a symposium on Nanotechnology and the traditional evening reception at the Festspielhaus.

After the welcome addresses of President Felix Unger and President of the Salzburger Landtag Brigitta Pallauf, around 90 new members were inaugurated and we welcomed around 350 guests.

Besides the academic hymn “Gaudeamus igitur” and the European anthem, the “New Art and Music Ensemble Salzburg” (Violin: Anna Lindenbaum, Piano: Matthias Leboucher, Cello: Leo Morello) performed two pieces by Agita Reķe and John Hwang.

The Festive Speech was delivered by Michael Eichmair on the topic “From Dido, Queen of Carthage, to the theory of Black Holes”.

The next Festive Plenary Sessions will be on 3rd March 2018. We are looking forward to seeing you in Salzburg next year.
