Workshop with community leaders in Egypt

Civic education program “Leading Change Across the Mediterranean”

22.11.2012 · C·A·P

As part of the civic education program of the “Leading Change Across the Mediterranean” Project the John D. Gerhart Center for Philanthropy and Civic Engagement of the American University in Cairo conducted a workshop for community leaders in Beni Suif, a small town south of Cairo. At the workshop the participants discussed core democratic values such as respect and diversity and elaborated on ways how to transfer these values in society. Moreover, the workshop aimed at identifying local resources to reorganize processes in local communities in innovative ways and to strengthen local governance structures.

The workshop’s program was based on a curriculum that had been developed by Tunisian and Egyptian trainers in collaboration the project team of C·A·P, AUC and AIHR at a workshop in Tunisia that took place in September 2012.
