The Center for Applied Policy Research (C·A·P) hosted 12 international students taking part at the European Studies Intensive Course. During their three-week stay in Munich, the students learned about the history, politics, economy, society and culture of the European Union. Lectures were held, among others, on the political system of the EU and its need for reform, on questions of legitimacy and identity in the EU, on the EU's external relations and on the future of the Union. Both during the lectures and in various meetings with politicians and experts, the specific shape of the Union as multi-level governance system was analyzed. To gain practical insights, the students visited the representation of the European Parliament and the European Patent Office.

The European Studies Intensive Course is part of the Munich International Summer University. It is organized by the C·A·P in cooperation with the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy in Vienna and the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy in Prague. This was the fifth time the course took place at the C·A·P. The next European Studies Course will take place in summer 2010.
